A symbol of status

Every day where I learn a thing or two is a good day. Yesterday I took my first visitors to have some traditional Singapore Slings from the place that first invented them. Funnily enough we met a fellow not only Mexican but Jarocho (a native of Veracruz, Mexico). It was my second time in the Raffles Hotel. He told the story of how in the old days it was a symbol of status to throw the rubbish to the floor as servants would come and pick it up after the masters. English then came along and things evolved. But the Long Bar re-established this practice of throwing your peanut husk to the floor. Peanuts are given to clients as snacks.
