A promise of love…

This view of the Taj Mahal is from its backside. It might appear exactly as the front as it has perfect symmetry. The Taj is built out of white marble and is engraved with semiprecious stones. The story says that the Taj is a tombstone and is meant to represent love and fidelity as a result of the promise of the third mogul emperor to his wife in her death bed to build a beautiful tomb and not to marry again.
The project lasted 22 years and it took 22,000 workers and artists. The legend says that the emperor was going to build the equivalent black Taj Mahal for his tombstone. It was meant to be across the river, where this picture was taken. Certainly one of the wonders of the world – not just a building!
